East Bay senior Delaney Poli called her Indians the "best team you've never heard of" after Wednesday's District 9 final.
However, if Poli has anything to do with it, East Bay's anonymity will be short-lived after the Indians receiver caught two touchdown passes and helped secure the school's third straight district title with a 13-0 win over Newsome.
In the first quarter, Poli made a nice crossing route in the back of the end zone and brought in a 4-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Stephanie Williams followed by another catch for the extra-point conversion.
Poli hauled in the second TD as well, this time on a 20-yard option pass from Nicole Lock.
According to Poli, the win settled some unfinished business for East Bay after a one-point OT loss to the Wolves during the regular season.
"We definitely wanted this game more than anything," Poli said. "After our regular-season loss to Newsome, I haven't ever been so upset after a loss. We lost by one point and that's not how that game should have gone."
The Wolves' offense struggled to get anything going with Newsome's best scoring chance coming after a Taylor Johnson interception (her second of the game) gave the team the ball inside the Indians' 10, but it ended with three straight incomplete passes.
The Indians were led defensively by the blitzing of Akeila Brown, who had two sacks.
