Chachere Moore's 3-point basket with 1.5 seconds left in regulation lifted Cambridge to a 39-36 win over Keswick Christian in Tuesday's Class 1A-Region 3 semifinals.
With her team trailing by 18 points in the third quarter, Moore admitted the Lancers' chances didn't look promising.
"The thoughts in my mind were, this is my senior year and this is not going to be my last high school game," Moore said, describing what she was thinking after Keswick's Sarah Trill put the Crusaders up 26-8 with 6:41 left in the third. "We're going to dig and we're going to fight back, because we're not coming off this court crying with tears of sorrow because we played like garbage."
With the score tied at 36 and 17 seconds left, Cambridge set up a play for Rachael Bode, who had scored the Lancers' previous seven points.
Bode tried to drive the lane, but it was packed. She tried to get open outside but was hounded. Then she noticed Moore open on the left side and made the pass.
Moore quickly shot, said to herself, "please let it go in," and watched the ball swish the net.
"The last time we played we were down by 13, so we knew we had it in us," Bode said of the comeback. "There were some doubts."
Cambridge held Keswick to 10 points during the last 15 minutes.
