Tampa Bay Tech secured the No. 1 seed in the Class 5A-District 8 tournament with a 55-42 victory against Durant on Wednesday night. The Titans can wrap up a perfect district record with a victory against Newsome on Friday night.
TBT led by eight after the first quarter, but Durant cut the lead to five with a 7-0 run midway through the second quarter. Junior Taylor Broadnax capped off the run with a 3-pointer.
Leading by 11 in the third quarter, Tech increased the lead to 16 by outscoring the Cougars 12-7.
Senior Jasmine Rodriguez led the Titans with 20 points and 19 rebounds. Broadnax led the Cougars with 17 points.
NEWEST CLUB MEMBER: Shytina Harley became the fourth East Bay girls player to reach the 1,000-career point milestone. Harley scored 22 points in the Indians' 56-50 loss to Riverview, which brings her total to 1,014, third all-time at East Bay.
Harley needs 11 rebounds to reach 1,000 for her career.
