Plant High defeated Bloomingdale 3-2 in a hard-fought 6A-District 8 boys soccer championship game on a chilly night.

The Panthers dominated most of the game, outshooting Bloomingdale 14-6.

Spencer Muratides put Plant on the board first with a goal off a corner kick in the fifth minute.

Ricky McEwan followed with a goal from 20 yards out in stoppage time of the first half to give the Panthers the 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the 65th minute, the Bulls made it interesting with a score from Joseph Sanchez off a deflection, narrowing the deficit to one goal.

Bloomingdale was rejuvenated, but in the 77th minute, Plant's Johnny Heiss put the game out of reach.

Heiss got past the Bulls' defense and glided in for a clinching breakaway goal, sending the Plant bench into celebration.

In stoppage time, Dalian Leigh scored one more for Bloomingdale, but there wasn't enough time.

Plant coach Chris Carbon led his team onto the field to celebrate with the district trophy.

Bloomingdale goalkeeper Austin Spagnola kept the Panthers within reach by stopping nine shots.
