When Amber Henson showed up at the Sickles High boys basketball game on Wednesday sporting a Duke sweatshirt, she coyly said it was because it was cold outside.
Actually, it was a sign.
Henson, the All-American center for Sickles and Hillsborough County's leading scorer this season, committed to Duke on Sunday.
Henson averaged 22.1 points per game and helped her team advance to the regional final.
After receiving a flurry of offers starting in eighth grade, Henson last year narrowed the lengthy list to Duke, Florida, LSU, Maryland, North Carolina, Stanford and Texas. Those coaches were regulars at Sickles games this season as they tried to lure Henson to campus.
Henson's brother John plays at North Carolina, which is about 8 miles from Duke's campus.
