TAMPA - The Patriots' defense dominated as Carrollwood Day School defeated Faith Baptist on Friday.
With a 14-12 lead at halftime, the Patriots (2-1) used a 28-point third quarter full of big defensive plays to cruise past the Eagles (0-3).
The Patriots forced six turnovers, including four interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Dillon Floyd led the defense with two interceptions.
Carrollwood Day held Faith Baptist to 146 yards on offense.
Faith Baptist's most productive offensive drive helped the Eagles get on the board after Taylor Mashburn hit Josh Walker for the 30-yard TD late in the second quarter.
On the ensuing Patriots drive, 6-foot-6 Joel Nyembo blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone to cut the deficit to two before halftime. Nyembo was playing in the third game for the school.
The momentum the Eagles gained heading into halftime evaporated in the third.
Deuce Gruden completed eight of 12 passes for 101 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and guided the offense to 247 yards.
