Blake opened its season in style.
After being held to just eight points last week in its Kickoff Classic, Blake entered Friday’s game with a purpose ... score fast and score often.
After its defense forced an early safety, the Yellow Jackets took advantage of a 76-yard punt return to the 5-yard line by DeAndre James. One play later, RB Joshua Bell punched the ball in to give Blake a lead it would not surrender.
The Yellow Jackets played good fundamental football in all phases of the game. The offense, led by quarterback Zain Gilmore, scored on each of its possessions with a balanced attack between the running and passing games.
The defense stood strong holding the Falcons to a total of 112 yards.
Gilmore finished the game with 194 yards passing and five touchdowns in just three quarters. Running backs Joshua Bell and Isiah Hobbs added to an explosive offense by combining to rush for more than 100 yards.
Blake will look to continue its momentum as it plays Lakewood next week. Leto will host to Gaither.
