During the past three years, the Blake boys basketball program has owned the series against Jesuit. The Yellow Jackets had won six straight entering Thursday night's Class 5A-District 11 game, which included beating the Tigers in all three meetings last season.
Unfortunately for Blake, Jesuit unloaded its frustration in a 69-37 drubbing of the two-time district champs, forcing a running clock per 35-point lead rule in the second half.
Junior guard Jack Fleming led the way with 21 points, scoring all of his points from beyond the arc, where he made five straight and finished 7-for-9. He was one shy of tying the school's single-game record for 3-pointers set by James Bunn during the 2001-2002 season.
"(This game) has been on our minds since the beginning of the season," Fleming said. "I thought it would be more competitive, but everyone shot well in the first half and we just ran away with it."
Jesuit (3-0, 1-0) jumped out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter, in which time Fleming made four 3-point baskets. So far this season, Fleming has had first halves of six, six, five and six 3-pointers made.
Senior forward Clarence Peterson, Blake's only returning starter from last year, led the Jackets (1-2, 0-1) with 15 points.
