Class 4A-Region 2
WIREGRASS RANCH (22-2-2)
WHERE: 2909 Mansfield Blvd., Wesley Chapel
NEED TO KNOW: The Class 4A-District 8 rivalry renews for a fourth time this season, this time with the Royal Knights and Bulls meeting to determine the top girls team in Pasco County. Wiregrass leads this season 2-1 after taking its first district title over River Ridge on Jan. 14. ... Remarkably, River Ridge's leading scorer - Jenny Karl (44 goals, 17 assists, 105 points) - has been held scoreless in the last two games. AJ Blount (38 goals, 15 assists) had a goal and an assist in the Bulls quarterfinal win against Gulf. Karl had eight goals against Wiregrass this season, while Blount put up four. Keep an eye on Karl and Blount's fellow forwards: Jessica Tata and Berlin Waters, who help create two dynamic scoring duos. Tata has 23 goals, while Waters has 20. ... However, both teams boast impressive young keepers. River Ridge's Lisa Jadick, a junior, is arguably the best keeper in the county with 130 saves and 13 shutouts, but Dayton Wetherby, a sophomore, has 87 saves and six shutouts, including keeping Gulf out of the net in the regional quarterfinals. Jadick did the same thing to Mitchell, keeping the Mustangs scoreless for 100 minutes with 11 saves, plus three-straight in the 3-2 shootout win.
