Jefferson felt it had a team that could make the playoffs this year and the focus this week was to show that. The Dragons (6-4) erupted for 33 points in the second quarter, including 19 in the final 28 seconds, and rolled to their fifth consecutive victory.
"We knew we had a playoff-caliber team," Jefferson coach Jeremy Earle said. "But, the ball didn't bounce our way in a couple of games. That's football."
Shaquille Speights, who finished with 102 yards rushing, scored on an 8-yard run with 28 seconds left in the second. It was his second score in the quarter.
The defense took over from there and scored twice. Charles Booth picked up a fumble and ran 10 yards for the score. On the ensuing possession, Marquiel Jacson intercepted a pass and raced 42 yards for the touchdown.
Deiondre Porter finished with 209 yards passing and two scores.
Cyrus Dooley finished with 154 yards rushing for the Eagles (5-5), including a 76-yard score in the fourth quarter.
