At Stake
The winner advances to the Class 5A state semifinals to face the winner of the Crawfordville Wakulla-Ponte Vedra 5A-1 final. History is also on the line in this matchup. In 1992, Pasco and Jesuit met at Florida Field for the Class 3A state championship. Pasco defeated the Tigers, 28-16, and it's the last time either program has reached a state title game.
Key Stat
Jesuit: Jesuit's offensive line has a total of 103 pancake blocks this season, led by senior right tackle and University of Alabama-Birmingham-commit Robby Gibbon's 35. The line, which consists of Gibbons, C Kevin Ormsby, RG Anthony Suarez, LG Grant Robinson, LT Cameron Ruff and occasionally TE Robby Garcia, has paved the way for an offense that is averaging 36 points, 178 passing yards and 163 rushing yards per game.
Pasco: WR Janarion Grant, ATH Trey Dudley-Giles and RB David Emmanuel all have 20-plus touchdowns this season, with their scores coming from all facets of the game: offense, defense and punt/kickoff returns.
Keep an Eye On
Jesuit: Tommy Eveld, quarterback. Eveld has been the offensive catalyst this postseason, throwing for 462 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. For his last three games, he's averaged a quarterback rating of 147. He's also rushed for 38 yards with a touchdown through two region playoffs games.
Pasco: Janarion Grant, receiver. As a sophomore, Grant won the state long jump title in track and field. Now a junior, Grant has put up one big play after another. In the region quarterfinals, Grant caught the winning touchdown from Jacob Guy on a broken field goal attempt. Last week, Grant had a 67-yard TD run, plus a 54-yard run from the wildcat offense that set up a field goal to pull Pasco's deficit to 21-20 at halftime.
Key matchups
Jesuit: It will be a long night for Pasco if it allows Eveld to stay in the pocket and pick the defense apart. Eveld is a 64 percent passer and has become confident in his offensive line's ability to protect him. Pasco's Philip Thompson leads the defense with 12 sacks for a total of 79 yard lost, while Joey Ivie has eight sacks for a total of 59 yards lost.
Pasco: Grant, Dudley-Giles and Emmanuel are all game-changers and it will be up to Jesuit free safety Travis Johnson and the secondary to shut down those big plays.
Quotable
"We've played Plant, Robinson and Lakewood on the road, so we've been in hostile situations. We're just focused on our game plan." -- Jesuit head coach James Harrell on the electric atmosphere his team will be surrounded by at Pasco
"I know Tommy (Eveld) -- his brother (USF quarterback Bobby Eveld) is best friends with my brother (USF tight end Tyler Guy). … My brother will be (at the game) … and I'm sure Bobby will be here, pulling for his brother. It's probably been an interesting week for them so far (at USF)." -- Pasco QB Jacob Guy
