Running back Cyrus Dooley came up big when Tyrell Garner went down to injury and the duo each rushed for over 100 yards to lead Brandon into the playoffs after defeating East Bay.
"We are proud we went 4-1 in district and got in the playoffs," Brandon coach John Lima said. "Our defense played well. That was a team that scores 28 points a game. They have great skill players. That offense is tough to defend and I think our defense did a good job of containing them.
"They run a flex-bone southern Georgia style of offense, and when they do that, we have to be very disciplined. We bent a little bit, but didn’t break."
Garner had 12 carries and 107 yards in the first quarter, scoring on a 15-yard run to put Brandon ahead. He went on to carry the ball five more times for a total of 129 yards before he was forced off the field due to injury.
"I think I stepped wrong and heard some popping sound," Garner said.
Dooley scored touchdowns of 16 and 5 yards, running for 139 yards on 22 carries.
Brandon hosts Jefferson on Thursday before traveling to Tampa Bay Tech for the 7A-2 region quarterfinals.
