Darius Page ran for 144 yards on 26 carries and the Wildcats’ defense did the rest to lead Wharton to an 18-6 victory Friday night against Blake.
Ahead by eight points in the third quarter, the Wildcats defense stopped the Yellow Jackets on four tries inside the 5-yard line.
Later in the quarter, senior defensive back John Tyler intercepted a Zain Gilmore pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown. Wharton had two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a sack.
Gilmore was 18-of-30 passing for 240 yards, including an 18-yard, fourth quarter scoring pass to Marcus Carter. Wildcats sophomore quarterback Chase Litton completed 10-of-15 pass attempts for 122 yards.
