The offenses from Jefferson and Sickles struggled to find their grooves, often sputtering with miscues between getting drilled by the defenses.
After all the fumbles (six combined), interceptions (three), bungled punts, sacks (a combined eight), penalties that erased touchdowns, and numerous tackles for loss — Jefferson finally took control in the second half to seal the Class 6A-District 8 victory.
In the first half, the only scoring came from the foot of Dragons kicker Carlos Ruiz, who converted from 22 and 42 yards in the first quarter.
Jefferson gained field position for the early scores only after Sickles had a punt blocked and another hiked over the punters' head that left the ball at the Sickles’ 10 and 16-yard lines, respectively.
In the second half, Jefferson’s offense finally found some traction, mostly on the legs of Shaquille Speights, who led all rushers with 13 carries for 164 yards, including a late touchdown run of 30 yards.
Coming into the game, Sickles had averaged 26.4 points a game.
Jefferson hosts Leto next Friday, while Sickles travels to Strawberry Crest.
