The last home game of the regular season for Blake was anticipated to be a memorable night for the seniors. However, junior running back DeAndre James had other plans.
James delivered a flawless performance surprising Lennard with his catching ability. He finished with nine catches for 61 yards and a touchdown as he helped the Yellow Jackets to a Class 5A-District 8 victory.
"This whole season, we've been stopping ourselves from winning,” Blake head coach Harry Hubbard. “We stayed positive the whole game to finish our last home game of the season with a win."
The Yellow Jackets defense was solid from start to finish, forcing the Longhorns into seven turnovers, two of which converted for touchdowns by Javon Kitchen and Julian Jackson.
Lennard's only highlight came in the second half with an interception by Darien Davis that went for a 55-yard touchdown. After the touchdown, the Longhorns were unable to get inside the Yellowjackets' 20-yard line the rest of the game.
Blake quarterback Zain Gilmore completed 14 of 25 passes for 211 yards.
