It wasn't pretty, but for Steinbrenner coach Floyd Graham, he wanted a win no matter how ugly it was.
The Warriors improved to 1-1 with a 20-14 win over visiting East Bay, but it wasn't one to brag about. There were 11 fumbles between the two teams and Steinbrenner shot itself in the foot throughout the game, fumbling five times in the first half. The Warriors got plenty of help from East Bay, which had little offense of its own.
"We have to play a lot better than that," Graham said. "We played well enough to win but we have to play a lot better than that. We are a better team than that."
East Bay took an early lead when quarterback Tajee Fullwood scored on a 14-yard touchdown run, but Steinbrenner came back with a long drive capped off by a 1-yard score by Kendall Pearcey.
East Bay went ahead when Saleem Lintz returned a fumble 75 yards for a score in the second quarter, but the Warriors tied it just before the half when Jon Marc Carrier pulled in a 39-yard pass from Curtis Fitch to knot the score at 14. Steinbrenner took the lead on a 25-yard pass from Logan LaPace to Jake Carroll.
East Bay threatened at the end, but Bret Byler sacked Fullwood on the final play to seal the win.
