An explosive first quarter from Carrollwood Day RB Robert Davis set the tone for Friday’s contest against Northside Christian. The shifty running back, who showed patience behind a sound offensive line, accounted for the first two scores and finished with a total of 101 yards rushing despite not playing in the second half.
Coach Andre Dobson and the Mustangs traveled to Tampa hoping to avoid an 0-3 start, but struggled to slow down a balanced attack from Carrollwood Day. While Davis started and kept the running game going, wide receiver Dillion Floyd found himself on the receiving end of two 30 yard touchdown passes from quarterback Deuce Gruden.
Big plays from the Patriots offense allowed its defense to play hard-hitting, uncompromising football. Interception returns for touchdowns by Dominiq Sicardo and Andy Embody were the direct result of a 3-4 defense that played fast and physical. With the offense and defense both playing well, cornerback Nate Lewis made sure the special teams unit was not forgotten about with his 65-yard elusive punt return.
