After a heartbreaking one-point loss last week, Blake returned home hoping to end its two-game losing streak. But, quarterback Tommy Eveld and the Jesuit offense proved to be too much.
Eveld, who operated the Tigers spread offense with defined and precise decision making, had 284 yards passing and three touchdowns in just two and a half quarters of play. On the first play from scrimmage, the senior QB found receiver Reggie Brown wide open on a wheel route for a 72-yard TD.
Following a huge defensive stop by his defense, Eveld found Travis Johnson one play later on a quick slant that went for 28 yards and a touchdown. Johnson caught five passes on the night, but it was his two interceptions and 124 all-purpose yards that were impressive.
While a well-disciplined offensive line allowed Eveld time to set his feet, read the defense and complete carefully designed plays down field, it was just the opposite for Yellow Jackets quarterback Zain Gilmore. The Tigers defense kept constant pressure on Gilmore, holding him to just 86 yards passing.
