Weather again played havoc with the high school sports schedules.
All of the region quarterfinal baseball games scheduled for Wednesday were postponed because of rain and lightning.
The eight games scheduled were moved to Thursday, meaning all 20 region quarterfinal games involving area teams will be played on the same day.
All of the games moved will be played at 7 p.m., with the exception of the Dixie Hollins at King matchup (4 p.m.) and Land O’ Lakes at Winter Haven (7:30 p.m.).
In softball, the Class 5A Region 3 semifinal between Bradenton Bayshore and Blake was postponed again because of rain and is scheduled to resume Thursday at noon at Blake.
The game was stopped in the bottom of the third inning with the game tied at 6.
The game continued Wednesday in the bottom of the first, with Blake leading 3-1 with two runners on base and one out. The Yellow Jackets scored three more runs, two on wild pitches. Bayshore scored twice in the top of the second inning and three more in the third.
The Class 7A-Region 3 softball semifinal at Chamberlain also was suspended for the second consecutive day after a thunderous bolt of lightning struck near the field and rain began pounding with two outs in the top of the fourth inning.
Freedom (19-3) led the Chiefs 3-2 when play was suspended. On Tuesday, Chamberlain (21-7) trailed 2-0 when play was suspended after the first inning.
Chamberlain coach Bob Diez said he hopes to resume play on Friday at 4 p.m., and a more firm decision will be made Friday morning.
