Former Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Garza has told California authorities that the ring he earned for winning the 2008 American League pennant was stolen from his Fresno home.
According to the Fresno Bee, Fresno County sheriff's deputies were investigating the burglary, which took place between Thursday and Tuesday.
Deputies said the ring was valued at $30,000.
Garza's name is engraved inside the ring, which has several white diamonds and one yellow diamond, the newspaper reported.
The right-hander was named the Most Valuable Player of that AL Championship Series after beating the Boston Red Sox twice, including Game 7. The Rays went on to lose to the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series.
Garza, 28, who was traded to the Chicago Cubs after the 2010 season, went to high school in Fresno and played for Fresno State University. The Rays acquired him in a trade from the Minnesota Twins before the 2008 season.
Garza and the Cubs reportedly have an arbitration hearing scheduled for Friday. Garza requested $12.5 million and the Cubs offered $7.95 million.
