Thursday was loading day for the Tampa Bay Rays, the day members of the clubhouse staff loaded trucks with equipment and gear for spring training, which starts in less than two weeks.
Pitchers and catchers report to the Rays facility in Port Charlotte on Feb. 20 and have their first workout the next day. Position players report on Feb. 25 and the first full-squad workout is Feb. 26.
Before that, the team will hold its annual Rays Fan Fest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 18 at Tropicana Field.
The Rays play their first spring training game March 3 against the Minnesota Twins in Fort Meyers, then play the Twins in Port Charlotte on March 4.
They are in the Bay area for the first time when they play the New York Yankees on March 7 at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
