HE SAID IT
FOUR IN A ROW?
At the rate he's going this season, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference might have to name its defensive player of the week award after him. Bethune-Cookman LB Ronnie McCullough, a Hillsborough High grad and former University of South Florida player, led the Wildcats' defense with 15 tackles - four for a loss - and three sacks in a 37-26 victory against Howard. The senior led the Wildcats with a career-high 23 tackles last week as he swept his way to a third consecutive MEAC defensive player of the week award.
PASSING GARCIA
San Jose State QB Adam Tafralis threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns, setting a school record for career total offense in a 51-17 win against New Mexico State. Tafralis, who also ran for a touchdown, recorded 316 yards in total offense for a career total of 7,363, passing Buccaneers QB Jeff Garcia on the Spartans' all-time list.
CONFUSING KICK
Iowa State coach Gene Chizik wasn't sure what happened at the end. Neither was Colorado coach Dan Hawkins. They weren't alone. Everyone in the stadium watched in confusion as Colorado's Kevin Eberhart first made a 50-yard field goal that was negated, then made a 55-yarder that was called off because time had run out, allowing Iowa State to escape with a 31-28 victory. "I've been in a lot of bizarre games," Hawkins said. "This might be close to the top." Eberhart's first kick fluttered through the uprights, but Colorado was called for delay of game for snapping the ball before it was blown into play. The officials marched off 5 yards, put a second on the clock and Colorado lined up again. Eberhart made the longer kick, but the officials ruled time had expired before the kick. "I'm not sure what happened, but we won," ISU LB Jesse Smith said. "That's all that matters."
RIVALRY WEEKEND
Harvard beat Penn 23-7 to set up its showdown with archrival Yale next weekend for the Ivy League championship. The Crimson and the Bulldogs, who beat Princeton 27-6, are both 6-0 in the league going into The Game for the first time since 1968.
