TAMPA - University of South Florida sophomore QB Matt Grothe continues to rewrite the school record books, while Louisville senior QB Brian Brohm has positioned himself to be one of the top picks in next year's NFL draft.
This Saturday at Raymond James Stadium, the two face each other.
"I know [Brohm] is a pretty darn good quarterback," Grothe said, "so it's going to be fun playing against him this week."
Brohm and Grothe are Nos. 1 and 2 in the Big East in total offense with 353.2 and 281.8 yards per game, respectively.
How they amass their yards, however, is as different as the BCS national championship game and the Meineke Car Care Bowl.
"Brian and I are completely different football players," said Grothe, who leads USF with 698 rushing yards. "He's more of a sit-in-the-pocket guy. He's not the fastest guy or most mobile quarterback, but he knows exactly where he needs to go with the ball. ... His type of style works for him and their team and the type of style I have works for us and our team."
JACKSON OUT: Coach Jim Leavitt confirmed that WR Amarri Jackson will miss his third straight game since injuring his knee in the second quarter at Connecticut on Oct. 27.
Also, DT Aaron Harris (ankle) is still day-to-day, but "it's a little bit of a reach" to think he will be ready to play Saturday, Leavitt said.
