One NFC team has a legend at quarterback, with Brett Favre trying to lead the Packers to an improbable Super Bowl title.

The other has a former No. 1 overall pick who has shown great poise and maturity the past two weeks, with Eli Manning finally breaking through in the playoffs by leading the underdog Giants to road victories at Tampa Bay and Dallas.

They will have a tough act to follow.

Before Sunday's NFC Championship Game (6:30 p.m., WTVT, Channel 13), Tom Brady and the Patriots look to take the next step in their pursuit of perfection, facing defensive stalwart Shawne Merriman and the Chargers for the AFC title (3 p.m., WTSP, Channel 10).

By upsetting defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis, the Chargers continued a recent AFC trend: After the Steelers (2004) and Colts (2005) squandered the conference's top seed, they went on to win the Super Bowl the following season. The Chargers, who lost to the Patriots in the divisional round as the AFC's top seed last season, are two wins from extending that trend.

It won't be easy: The Pats routed the Chargers 38-14 in Week 2 en route to the first 16-0 regular season in NFL history.

The Giants and Packers also met in Week 2, with Green Bay rolling to a 35-13 victory at Giants Stadium.

Pats-Chargers. Packers-Giants. Enjoy.
