Spartans Prove Too Strong For Florida Atlantic

On a career day, perhaps Michigan State running back Javon Ringer's most striking accomplishment Saturday was hanging onto the ball.

Over and over again, in a nearly constant rain, with the entire Florida Atlantic defense trying to rip it away from him.

Ringer splashed his way to a career-high 282 yards rushing on 43 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead Michigan State past Florida Atlantic in a non-conference game, 17-0, in a soggy Spartan Stadium.

"I knew that we were going to run the ball a lot with the weather," he said. "My No. 1 concern was holding onto the ball. The field held up well and it wasn't too muddy. The ball was just slippery."

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE 28,

BETHUNE-COOKMAN 19

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Running back Will Ford rushed for 175 yards and two scores and quarterback Malcolm Long completed 16 of 24 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown to lead South Carolina State victory over Bethune-Cookman.

The win was the first in MEAC play for S.C. State and the second in a row for the Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0 MEAC). Bethune-Cookman (1-1, 0-1) was held to 197 total yards on offense, including just 64 on the ground.
