The Tampa Bay Rays are revealing nothing until game time.
Nothing about their walk-up music, that is.
You might presume that the Rays spent every waking, non-playing moment on their recent road trip hovering over their iPods, choosing the music that will set the tone for their Tropicana Field at-bats.
You'd be wrong. Most will probably go with an old favorite, or what they used last year, or some song they heard on the way to the stadium.
But just in case a player hasn't chosen his song yet, or just in case the guys in the booth are sick of Lil Wayne, here are our picks for the projected starting lineup's walk-up songs.
1. B.J. Upton
B.J. stands for "Bossman Junior," so we're going old-school with Big Daddy Kane's "I Get the Job Done."
2. Carl Crawford
The left fielder has a knack for triples, so the "Schoolhouse Rock" favorite "Three Is a Magic Number" seems like a natural.
3. Evan Longoria
Loverboy's "The Kid Is Hot Tonight" sets the stage for the American League's 2008 Rookie of the Year.
4. Carlos Pena
Home-run threat Pena batting cleanup is a no-brainer, as is the choice of Ten Years After's Woodstock highlight "I'm Going Home."
5. Pat Burrell
"A Change Would Do You Good" by Sheryl Crow suits designated hitter Burrell, who comes to the Rays from the Phillies, their World Series foes.
6. Dioner Navarro
Base runners take off at their own risk when Navarro's behind the plate, so Jane's Addiction's "Been Caught Stealing" gets the nod.
7. Gabe Gross
The right fielder loves hunting and fishing, so we're going with Lynyrd Skynyrd's "On the Hunt."
8. Akinori Iwamura
The second baseman's nickname in Japan is "gun," giving The Beatles' "Happiness Is a Warm Gun" a new meaning here.
9. Jason Bartlett
Muddy Waters' "You're Gonna Miss Me" is a reminder that the Rays' win-loss record suffered when Bartlett was on the disabled list.
