Hideki Matsui homered twice and had a career-high seven RBIs, Alex Rodriguez had four hits and the New York Yankees picked up where they left off against the Boston Red Sox with a 23-hit attack and a 20-11 win Friday night.
The Yanks had a season high in runs in the opener of a three-game series 12 days after completing a four-game sweep of Boston in New York. They also dominated the first game of that set, winning 13-6.
New York has been rolling against all opponents with a 15-3 record in its last 18 games. The win increased its AL East lead to 71/2 games over Boston, which began a 10-game homestand after winning its previous three games in Toronto.
The Yankees started the season 0-8 against the Red Sox but have won five straight against the Sox.
