Mike Mercer scored a career-high 19 points to lead four South Florida players in double figures as the Bulls defeated San Diego 69-60 in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic on Sunday.
Dominique Jones scored 18, Jarrid Famous 14 and Chris Howard 11 for South Florida (10-2), which surpassed last year's win total (9-22).
Devin Ginty led the Toreros (5-8) with 13 points. Brandon Johnson scored 12 and Roberto Mafra 11.
The Bulls beat San Francisco 69-49 on Saturday to finish the tourney 2-0. It's the first time USF has gone 2-0 in a tourney since beating South Alabama and New Orleans in the 2003 USF Holiday Hoops Classic.
The game was tied at 51 with 8:40 to play when South Florida scored the next six points, four of them by Mercer. The Bulls, who shot 46 percent from the field, maintained the lead after that.
San Diego shot 38 percent from the field in the game.
USF opens its Big East schedule Dec. 30 at Louisville.
