Rays Open 1st Full-Squad Workout Of Spring

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Tampa Bay Rays took the field at 10 a.m. today for their first full-squad workout of the spring, with all major players on hand for the occasion.

New acquisition Adam Kennedy is here, wearing jersey No. 24 (which had belonged to quality assurance coach Todd Greene), and Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena also are on hand for the first time this spring. The latter two jogged onto the field together before the workout, just before the final arrival, Evan Longoria.

The only player among the 62 scheduled to be in camp not accounted for, according to team officials, is nonroster infielder Ray Olmedo.

Executive vice president Andrew Friedman led off a scheduled half-hour of talk from higher-ups, with manager Joe Maddon also set to deliver his camp-opening message. Also on tap for today is the usual schedule of workouts for the pitchers, along with fielding drills and batting practice for the position players.

The Rays will work out daily beginning about 9:30 a.m. from Thursday through next Tuesday. They open their Grapefruit League schedule next Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds at Charlotte Sports Park.
