The Chicago Blackhawks dipped deep into the NHL free-agent market by signing star forward Marian Hossa away from the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday with a 12-year, $62.8 million contract.
Hossa, who took a one-year deal with the defending champ Red Wings last summer, cashed in this time. The four-time All-Star and 11-year NHL veteran has played on the Stanley Cup runner-up the last two years.
AVALANCHE: Have signed free agent goalie Craig Anderson (Panthers) to a two-year contract.
CANADIENS: Signed center Mike Cammalleri (five years, $30 million) and defensemen Jaroslav Spacek (three years, $11.5 million) and Hal Gill (two years, $4.5 million).
CANUCKS: Daniel and Henrik Sedin agreed to five-year, $30.5 million contract extensions.
CAPITALS: Signed right wing Mike Knuble (Flyers) to a two-year deal worth $5.6 million.
DUCKS: Have re-signed Scott Niedermayer to a one-year deal worth $6 million plus bonuses.
HURRICANES: Re-signed Erik Cole to a two-year, $5.8 million deal.
ISLANDERS: Signed goalie Dwayne Roloson (Oilers) to a two-year, $5 million contract.
KUBINA TRADED: The Thrashers have acquired defenseman Pavel Kubina and forward Tim Stapleton from the Maples Leafs for defenseman Garnet Exelby and forward Colin Stuart.
MAPLE LEAFS: Free agent defenseman Mike Komisarek (Canadiens) signed a five-year, $22.5 million deal.
OILERS: Have signed 36-year-old Nikolai Khabibulin (Blackhawks) to a four-year, $15 million deal.
PANTHERS: Have agreed to a six-year contract extension with forward David Booth, and signed right wing Radek Dvorak to a two-year deal.
PREDATORS: Re-signed forward Joel Ward to a two-year, $3 million deal.
RANGERS: Signed flashy forward Marian Gaborik (Wild) to a five-year, $37.5 million deal.
