PLAYERS TO WATCH
Brittany Cox, F, East Bay - Had 26 goals last season as she helped lead the Indians to the 6A region final. The senior has three goals through two games this season.
Karina Gutsche, F/MF, Newsome - Coming off a 22-goal season, the junior provides the Wolves with a lot of options with her ability to play all over the field. Newsome also will look to her to provide leadership for a team that, although talented, is replacing a lot of starters from last season.
Jordan Hatton, GK, Tampa Prep - She has been a defensive stalwart for four seasons, logging 3,939 minutes in goal and allowing only 31 goals during the previous three seasons. The vocal leader has posted 38 shutouts, including 13 last season.
Colby Maffei, F, Tampa Prep - She scored a team-leading 30 goals a season ago. This season, the sophomore will have to step up as Tampa Prep lost some key on-field leaders from its state final four team.
Taylor Richardson, D, Berkeley Prep - The Buccaneers have something special with Richardson, who paces the defense at stopper, but also has been Berkeley's biggest scoring threat. Richardson at any time can cross over to offense and decide games for the Buccaneers as she scored 27 goals a season ago. The senior has four goals through two games this season.
