GAINESVILLE University of Florida coach Urban Meyer announced that starting LB A.J. Jones will miss this weekend's game against Florida State with an MCL injury he suffered in the first half of last week's win over Florida International.
"He's out for a few weeks," Meyer said.
Jones has been a consistent performer this season for the Gators, with 29 tackles and an interception.
Meyer said Brandon Hicks is taking the first-team reps in place of Jones, and that senior Dustin Doe also may see time at the spot.
Meyer said Jones may not be back in time for UF's SEC Championship Game showdown with Alabama on Dec. 5.
LOTS OF RESPECT: Archrival Florida State (6-5, 4-4 ACC) has taken its lumps this season, but Meyer knows that a win in the Swamp on Saturday would make the Seminoles' year.
Last week's 29-26 victory against Maryland made FSU bowl eligible for a 28th straight season, and Coach Bobby Bowden's squad is coming off consecutive wins.
"There's not a guy on FSU's roster that we didn't recruit, so that should show you the respect we have for them," Meyer said.
INJURIES: RB Emmanuel Moody (ankle) is questionable for the FSU game, while DT Terron Sanders (rib) and DE Jermaine Cunningham (shoulder) are probable.
