ORLANDO Well, they won. That was the good news for the Florida State Seminoles on Thursday night in the first round of the Old Spice Classic
FSU defeated Iona 54-49 to advance to the winner's bracket, where it will take on Alabama today at 5 p.m.
Despite 27 turnovers and 35-percent shooting from the floor, the Seminoles found a way - they defended their way actually - to the five-point victory.
With the game tied at 47-47, center Solomon Alabi drilled two straight free throws.
Sophomore Chris Singleton followed with two more and Derwin Kitchen hit a running one-hander - after a big offensive rebound by freshman Michael Snaer - to lift the Seminoles (4-1) to the win.
