TAMPA The Tampa Bay Lightning signed free-agent left wing Sean Bergenheim to a one year contract, general manager Steve Yzerman announced Tuesday. Bergenheim, 5-foot-10, 205 pounds, has 40 goals, 80 points and 195 penalty minutes in 240 career NHL games, all with the New York Islanders.
Bergenheim's best offensive season was 2008-09, when had career highs of 15 goals and 24 points, including four short-handed and five winning goals. A native of Helsinki, Finland, Bergenheim was drafted in the first round, 22nd overall, by the Islanders in 2002.
Tournament roster set
First-round draft pick Brett Connolly is among 21 players who will represent the Lightning at the NHL Prospects Tournament in September in Traverse City. The roster, announced by the team on Tuesday, includes draft picks and invitees.
Connolly, a right wing chosen No. 6 overall in the June entry draft, will be joined by top prospects Dana Tyrell, Richard Panik, Alex Hutchings, Carter Ashton and James Wright, as well as Norfolk Admirals goaltenders Dustin Tokarski and Jaroslav Janus.
The Lightning have not participated in the event since the 2007-08 season. Detroit, Dallas, Columbus, Carolina, St. Louis, Minnesota and the New York Rangers will compete in the eight-team tournament Sept. 11-15.
