Villanova (21-2, 10-1) rebounded from a blowout loss at No. 7 Georgetown on Saturday to pull into a first-place tie with No. 2 Syracuse in the Big East.
West Virginia (19-4, 8-3) led only in the game's opening minutes, couldn't overcome an 11-point halftime deficit and saw its six-game winning streak snapped. The Mountaineers will have to wait until Friday night at No 25 Pittsburgh to try for their sixth straight 20-win season.

INDIANAPOLIS - Matt Howard scored 20 points to lead Butler (21-4, 14-0) past Loyola of Chicago (13-11, 4-10) for the Bulldogs' 13th straight win as they clinched at least a share of their fourth straight Horizon League regular-season title.
The Bulldogs matched the second-longest winning streak in school history.

PITTSBURGH - Ashton Gibbs and Jermaine Dixon led a mid-game surge as Pittsburgh (18-6) broke out of a tie late in the first half by scoring 27 of the next 32 points, and remained unbeaten against city rival Robert Morris (16-9).
MESSINA HONORED: For the second time in three weeks, the University of Tampa's Gianna Messina was named the Sunshine State Conference Women's Player of the Week. In two games last week, Messina (Holy Names) shot 45 percent from the field, 57 percent from 3-point range, and 83 percent at the line.
