C Dioner Navarro
The 2008 All-Star tries to rebound from a poor 2009 and will compete with newly acquired Kelly Shoppach for playing time. Just how Manager Joe Maddon uses his catchers will depend on how much Navarro proves he belongs behind the plate.
RHP Jeremy Hellickson
The 22-year-old is destined to begin the year at Triple-A Durham, but the Rays will take a good look at Hellickson before he packs his bags. How well he pitches next month will determine how fast the Rays bring him up to fill a need this summer.
OF Desmond Jennings
Last year's MVP of the Double-A Southern League is the outfielder in waiting. Like Jeremy Hellickson, the Rays expect to see him at Tropicana Field at some point this season, especially if they are forced to trade Carl Crawford.
RF Matt Joyce
The Rays expect Joyce to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster. So does Joyce. He will be the key in determining how much time Ben Zobrist spends in right field and how much time Zobrist spends at second base.
DH Pat Burrell
While a strong spring doesn't mean anything once the regular season starts, it wouldn't hurt Burrell to have a strong exhibition season to build momentum as he attempts to make amends for his poor 2009.
