A regulation high school basketball game is 32 minutes long.
Tampa Prep's win in the Class 2A-District 10 boys basketball final barely took eight minutes.
The Terrapins (22-4) got host Calvary Christian's backcourt in deep foul trouble right away by playing a furious up-tempo game, and rolled to a 83-40 win Saturday.
How decisive was the contest? Consider Gytis Garsys' 3-point basket from the top of the key with 4:41 left in the second quarter gave the Terrapins a 42-point lead at 49-7.
At times the game appeared to be a bad hockey game, with the ball seemingly always in Tampa Prep's front court. Often, it was a mighty effort just for the Warriors to get the ball across the midcourt line early.
Well before halftime, the deep parts of the Terrapins bench were logging minutes.
"We came in determined to win," Tampa Prep forward Devontae Morgan said. "We've had a couple of games like this this year, but we don't underestimate any team. We come to play every game. We're hungry to get back to Lakeland."
Tampa Prep got Calvary Christian point guard Jim Appeit to commit three early fouls. That was the proverbial blood in the water and the Terrapins began to devour the Warriors. An impromptu dunking contest soon took place.
