After three meetings in which Tampa Prep defeated Calvary Christian by at least 32 points, Terrapins coach Joe Fenlon said his goal was to make sure his players remembered not the big wins, but a loss two seasons ago to the Warriors in the region semifinals.
"They beat us in this same game two years ago," Fenlon said. "And that was something we definitely thought about, because there are quite a few kids on this team from a few years ago."
The Terrapins remembered but looked unfazed and cruised to a 78-33 win in Tuesday's Class 2A-Region 3 semifinals.
"When you play a team four times, you get pretty familiar," Fenlon said. "We knew they would try to hold the ball a little bit, so for the last few days that's all we worked on."
The Terrapins came out a little sluggish offensively, but they dominated at both ends of the floor in stretching their lead to 15 by the end of the first.
Tampa Prep's first-quarter dominance was led by senior Jay Bowie, who had seven points in the quarter, including an alley-oop off a pass from David Fletcher on his way to a team-leading 20.
The Terrapins were also aggressive defensively from the beginning, allowing only five Warriors attempts in the first quarter resulting in three 3-pointers, including a buzzer-beating halfcourt shot.
Devontae Morgan added 18 for the Terrapins.
