Bloomingdale senior guard Tim Coffey stepped to the free-throw line with 2.8 seconds left in his team's nondistrict basketball game against Tampa Bay Tech on Friday with redemption on his mind.
During the preseason, Tampa Bay Tech defeated the Bulls in double overtime.
Despite the roaring of TBT's fans, Coffey sank both free throws to give Bloomingdale a 64-61 victory. They also capped a 24-point performance by Coffey that included five 3-pointers.
TBT senior guard LaCarlton Nelson nearly sent the game into overtime when his heave from midcourt bounced off the front of the rim at the buzzer.
"I had a feeling that if I missed them, they'd hit some crazy shot and win it," Coffey said.
Bloomingdale lost to King on a last-second 3-pointer Dec. 11.
"When he threw it up there, I already knew it was going in," Bloomingdale coach Joe Willis said.
Bloomingdale (9-7) scored nearly half its points from beyond the arc, making 10 3-pointers.
Senior guard Sharky Feist added 15 points, including 12 from the perimeter.
"We make 3's off offensive execution," Willis said.
"Tonight, Sharky and I were lights out," Coffey said. "That's the best we've shot all season."
Nelson led Tech (6-6) with 19 points.
