Staff writer Joey Johnston projects the number of NCAA Tournament bids in each major conference heading into this week's league tournaments:
ACC (6)
Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Virginia Tech.
League tournament: Thursday-Sunday at Greensboro, N.C.
Key issue: Wake Forest (18-9), once an NCAA lock, will have a season-ending six-game losing streak if it falls today against Clemson, then goes one-and-out at the ACC Tournament.
Big East (8)
Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Villanova, West Virginia.
League tournament: Tuesday-Saturday at New York.
Key issue: Notre Dame (21-10) has muscled its way into the field with a four-game winning streak, even with the injury to star Luke Harangody. Notre Dame holds a two-game sweep against USF.
Big Ten (4)
Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin.
League tournament: Thursday-Sunday at Indianapolis.
Key issue: Illinois (18-12), which faces Wisconsin today, may work into the conversation. Bigger question: Is red-hot Ohio State or Purdue the better contender for a No. 1 seed?
Big 12 (7)
Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M.
League tournament: Wednesday-Saturday at Kansas City, Mo.
Key issue: Absence of bubble drama here - and Kansas State's possibilities of a No. 1 seed may have vanished with Saturday's loss against Iowa State.
Pac-10 (1)
California.
League tournament: Wednesday-Saturday at Los Angeles.
Key issue: Stunning, but true. Woefully down Pac-10 probably is looking at just one bid (unless Cal fails to win the league tournament).
SEC (4)
Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt.
League tournament: Thursday-Sunday at Nashville, Tenn.
Key issue: Sliding Gators (20-10), who play today at Kentucky, should squeak in with nonconference wins against Michigan State and Florida State. SEC West teams? Done.
