Right fielder Matt Joyce played his first major-league game Sunday since he suffered a strain in his right elbow March 11 while making throws from the outfield during batting practice. Joyce was the designated hitter against the Twins. He hit first in the lineup and homered in four at-bats.
When was the last time you batted leadoff?
I really don't think I ever hit leadoff. What do I do? Take the first pitch?
While you're batting leadoff to get more at-bats, do you think you have the speed to hit at the top of the order?
I did steal a base in a minor-league game (Saturday). Maybe I'll drop one (bunt) down.
All kidding aside, how is the elbow coming along?
I played catch (Sunday). I just got to get the arm strength there. I can throw it 90 feet, but I can't really throw it 90 feet.
What's next?
It's kind of step-by-step, see how it feels. We'll come back (today) and see how it feels. If it's not sore we'll throw again and see how far I can go.
Do you have a timetable?
I would expect another five days, four or five days before I can play the outfield.
