Cozarts honored by Dairy Farmers

The father and son duo of Russ and Joe Cozart have earned the ultimate honor from the Florida Dairy Farmers.

Brandon's Russ Cozart was named Coach of the Year and Joe Cozart was named Wrestler of the Year. Both had previously been recognized as the tops in the sport of Class 3A.

It's the seventh time Russ Cozart, who recently led the Eagles to their 10th consecutive state championship, has won the annual award.

Joe Cozart won the 152-pound weight class at this year's 3A state finals, finishing the season with a 60-1 record and completing his high school career as a four-time state champion.

Brandon junior Kayla Goff, who leads Hillsborough County softball pitchers with 264 strikeouts, has verbally committed to the University of North Florida. ... Three members of the Sickles boys soccer team signed letters-of-intent Wednesday. Goalkeeper Brandon Stout and forward/midfielder Joey Ltief signed with Webber International, while midfielder Boris Simeunovic signed with Florida Southern. ... Newsome senior boys basketball player Jake Hodges signed with Polk State on Tuesday. ... Alonso senior defensive back Cameron Rude accepted a scholarship offer from Division III Defiance College in Ohio. ... East Bay's Brittany Cox has signed a soccer scholarship with Webber International. ... Carrollwood Day two-way senior football player Darius Bing committed to Quincy. Bing rushed for 1,022 yards and 15 touchdowns and added 20 receptions for 398 yards and four scores. As a defensive back, he had 99 tackles and three interceptions.

Volleyball

Berkeley Prep sophomore outside hitter Jordan Burgess helped the U.S. Youth National Volleyball team win the NORCECA Girls Youth Continental Championship in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on Sunday.

The U.S. team automatically qualified for the 2011 FIVB Girls Youth World Championship in Turkey and also will compete in the first IOC Youth Olympics to be held in August in Singapore.
