After less then a year as coach, Paul Dalglish was fired Thursday by the FC Tampa Bay Rowdies with two games remaining in the regular season.
Perry Van Der Beck, the Rowdies' vice president, technical director and director of player development, will serve as the interim coach for the final two matches, including Friday night's against NSC Minnesota at Steinbrenner Field.
The Rowdies, who were eliminated from playoff contention following Sunday's 3-0 loss at Montreal, were 6-11-11 under Dalglish during the team's first season in the United States Soccer Federation Division 2.
"This was a difficult decision to make, but we feel it is in the best interest of our club for both of us to move in different directions," Rowdies owner/president Andrew Nestor in a statement.
"We appreciate all of the hard work that Paul gave to this team, and we wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future."
Heading into Friday night's match, Tampa Bay is last in the USL Conference and ninth in the overall standings. Tampa Bay has won just one of its past 20 matches.
"The Rowdies are a great club and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here," Dalglish said. "The club has a lot of young players for the future and I wish them the very best."
