In its last trip to Atlanta, on July 23, FC Tampa Bay had a four-match NASL unbeaten streak snapped with a one-goal loss to the Silverbacks.
That loss was avenged Saturday night with FC Tampa Bay's most lopsided win of the season, a 4-0 decision in Atlanta behind two goals in each half.
Recovering from a minor shoulder injury, Jeff Attinella, FC Tampa Bay's regular starting goalkeeper, was rested for the match, giving Evan Newton, on loan from Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo, his first start of the year.
Newton was never tested as the FC Tampa Bay attack controlled the match throughout.
Midfielder Keith Savage scored his first goal of the season in the 29th minute off a free kick from Mozzi Gyorio. Ambersley picked up an assist for redirecting the ball to Savage.
The wide midfield tandem of Gyorio and Pascal Millien created problems for the Silverbacks defense all night.
It was Millien who had a hand in the second goal, passing the ball in to forward Aaron King, who slid it across the face of goal to an unmarked Ambersley to double the lead in the 33rd minute. It was Ambersley's team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Savage got onto the score sheet for the second time with a goal in the 60th minute, with Ambersley again collecting the assist.
Second-half substitute Matt Clare completed the scoring with his first league goal of the year in the 82nd minute.
Another positive for FC Tampa Bay (7-6-6, 27 points) was the return of club captain Frankie Sanfilippo, who played for the first time in two weeks since suffering from symptoms of dehydration in practice before the last game in Atlanta (3-13-3, 12 points).
FC Tampa Bay concludes its two-match road trip Wednesday night in Montreal. The club returns home next Saturday to host NSC Minnesota.
