A furious FC Tampa Bay comeback erased a late two-goal deficit Wednesday night to earn a surprising 3-3 draw on the road against the Montreal Impact.
The Impact (3-10-7, 16 points) dominated possession throughout, but it was FC Tampa Bay (7-6-7, 28 points) that held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Shane Hill scored his second goal of the season in the 38th minute off a corner kick, giving the visitors an unlikely lead.
The Impact fought back quickly after the start of the second half, benefitting from goals in the 49th and 54th minutes by Eduardo Sebrango and Ian Westlake, respectively, to take a 2-1 lead.
The Montreal lead was extended in the 75th minute as Sebrango scored his second goal of the night. Impact forward Ali Gerba collected assists on all three goals as Montreal took control of the match.
Montreal, which has struggled in its final season before moving up to MLS next year, seemed poised to earn its fourth win of the season, but it was not to be as FC Tampa Bay stormed back to earn a vital point on the road.
Aaron King scored his sixth goal in seven games in the 85th minute to ignite the comeback. FC Tampa Bay captain Frankie Sanfilippo earned the assist to help cut the deficit in half.
It was FC Tampa Bay's creative midfielder Mozzi Gyorio who struck the final blow in the 90th minute, scoring his first goal of the season.
