FC Tampa Bay rolls to 2-0 win

»  Comments | Post a Comment

FC Tampa Bay rolled to a 2-0 road win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Saturday, benefitting from a goal in each half from forwards Aaron King and Mike Ambersley.

Ambersley and King combined early in the game to set up King for a shot from 12 yards, which he buried to give FC Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead 9 minutes into the game. King's eighth goal of the season put FC Tampa Bay (9-7-7, 34 points) ahead to stay.

Fort Lauderdale (6-7-10, 28 points) earned nine corner kicks in the match, but FC Tampa Bay goalkeeper Jeff Attinella was there at every calling to earn his fourth shutout of the season.

Ambersley had a chance to make it 2-0 early in the second half when Strikers goalkeeper Matt Glaeser misplayed a clearance. Ambersley missed his shot on an open goal, though, shooting wide left.

Ambersley put the game out of reach with his 11th goal of the season in the 77th minute, again of a Glaeser error. Ambersley beat Glaeser to a loose ball on the edge of the 18-yard box, and dribbled toward the open net for an uncontested goal.

FC Tampa Bay remains alone in third place in the NASL standings with five regular-season games left.
