FC Tampa Bay prevails at Edmonton

A pair of defensive miscues by FC Edmonton helped FC Tampa Bay pick up a 2-1 road win Sunday night.

Goals on either side of the halftime break by forwards Aaron King and Mike Ambersley helped FC Tampa Bay (5-6-5, 21 points) overturn its worst result of the season, a 4-0 loss in May in its only prior visit to Foote Field.

The hosts jumped out to an early lead as Ilja van Leerdam played a perfectly weighted pass to midfielder Kyle Porter, who beat goalkeeper Jeff Attinella in the 19th minute.

FC Tampa Bay controlled the rest of the half, pulling level in the 30th minute after King benefited from confusion in the Edmonton backline, scoring past goalkeeper Rein Baart for his fourth goal of the season.

Baart was at fault for Ambersley's game-winning goal in the 70th minute. Baart botched a clearance, kicking the ball directly to Ambersley, who dribbled past two defenders and scored from close range for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

FC Tampa Bay was without head coach Ricky Hill, on personal bereavement leave, and winger Pascal Millien, suspended for receiving a red card in FC Tampa Bay's last NASL match.
