Wiregrass Ranch junior goalkeeper Dayton Wetherby verbally committed to Navy, Bulls soccer coach Erin Dodd said.
While playing for a 17-5 Bulls team that was a 4A-8 district semifinalist this season, Wetherby logged 1,540 minutes in net, making 78 saves, recording 11 shutouts and giving up only 11 goals. In three seasons as a starter, Wetherby's career stats are impressive: 39 goals against, 247 saves and 24 shutouts.
- Also, Land O' Lakes senior forward Josh Davis verbally committed to Saint Leo, Gators coach Mark Pearson said.
Davis, a speedy forward, had a team- and Pasco County-high 33 goals for Land O' Lakes, which lost in the 3A state final.
Baseball
The starting time for Jesuit's baseball game against Tampa Catholic on Saturday at Paul Straub Field at Hyer Family Park has been moved to 2 p.m. The game originally was scheduled for 7 p.m. but was changed to allow fans to also attend the Jesuit at Lake Wales Class 5A-Region 3 boys basketball final at 7 p.m. Saturday.
