Playboy announced today it will not hold a Super Bowl party when the big game comes to Tampa this year.
That news had been rumored for weeks, in light of tough economic times for the company. Playboy stock has plummeted in the last year and the company shut down its DVD division.
Today, it became official - the party that has competed with Maxim for top Super Bowl billing in recent years will not be thrown in Tampa.
''While we are huge fans of Super Bowl weekend and are participating in the DirecTV Celebrity Beach Bowl event, we will not be hosting a separate party in Tampa,'' Playboy spokesperson Lauren Melone said in a statement.
The Celebrity Beach Bowl will take place at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at Progress Energy Park in St. Petersburg.
The Maxim party is scheduled for Jan. 30 at the Ritz in Ybor City.
