TAMPA With a 70 percent chance of rain expected Saturday at Connecticut, the University of South Florida got a preview of what to expect going through a rainy Wednesday practice.
"It probably doesn't hurt [practicing in the rain]. We got a chance to do a lot of kicking in the rain," USF coach Jim Leavitt said. "We'll deal with it. You have to handle footballs in weather conditions."
Because of the threat of heavy rains later in the evening, the practice was cut short.
"We got done what we needed to get done," Leavitt said.
Offensive line coach Mike Simmonds kept the linemen for an additional 30 minutes. The Bulls, who allowed seven sacks at Rutgers, will be without RT Walter Walker, who suffered a knee injury last week.
Walker is the Bulls' most experienced lineman.
Leavitt said senior C Nick Capogna would make the trip to UConn, but G Matt Huners will remain in Tampa. USF had hoped Huners, who tore his ACL in the spring game, could return this week, but he's still bothered by his knee and also a back injury.
Capogna suffered a sprained knee in the season opener and has played sparingly this season.
"Is he 100 percent? No," Leavitt said. "But I don't know how many guys really are."
